Signs Your SO Isn’t Over Their Ex

Not all relationships stand the test of time and, the older you get, the more likely your current partner has a few exes in their past. However, there is a difference between an ex and an ex they are not over yet.

Here are a few warning signs to keep an eye out for.

They reference them constantly

“My ex took me to that restaurant once – yuck!”

“Oh my god, that person is wearing a coat just like my ex’s. I hated it!”

Even when referenced negatively, this is a warning sign that your current beau is not yet over their ex.

They might think that because they are speaking in a less than positive way, that it reinforces the fact that they are over their ex. It doesn’t.

All it does is highlight how much their ex is on their mind. Take the hint.

They keep jewellery given as gifts

Even if it is a nice piece of jewellery, there really isn’t any appropriate way to keep jewellery from an ex, let alone keep wearing it.

For many people, jewellery gifts have emotional significance and the fact that they still wear the gift should raise concerns in your current relationship.

They are saying that they haven’t let go of the emotional attachment to their ex – so where does that leave you?

They compare you to their ex

Again, this may be done with a positive spin – “My ex was such a fussy eater – not like you.”

This sounds like a compliment but all it does is remind you that their ex is still present in their thoughts when they look at you.

This is a warning when they do it as a compliment, but if they start doing it in a negative way – “My ex was never this picky about clothes!” – it’s time to find the nearest exit in this relationship!

They stay in touch via social

Some people stay friends with their exes. It’s rare but it happens. And that’s fine, some people are able to move past their relationship into friendship, especially if they were once part of the same crowd of friends.

This in itself is not a red flag. What should alarm you is if your current boyfriend is overly active on their ex’s social channels.

Does he comment, like and share her posts constantly? Is he always checking where she is and what she’s doing? Has he made a comment about who she’s dating now?

If the answer to any of these is yes, it’s time to nip this relationship in the bud.

They still attend previously arranged events together

So they planned to attend a mutual friend’s wedding together before the break up and he’s already booked the hotel. It’s still okay for them to go together, right?

Wrong! If your new boyfriend suggests this to you, then you know he is definitely not over his ex.

It doesn’t matter how much he spent on the room or what was arranged before the break up – this is inappropriate and a major warning flag.
