As a single guy on pof on a free account , I don’t seem to be receiving any msgs ..so my question is do I need to pay the subscription to receive msgs from women ?

Great question! You do not need to pay for a subscription to receive and send messages on Plenty of Fish. Our best advice is to make sure you're sending messages to those who catch your eye and not wait for others to reach out to you. Secondly, make sure your messages are thoughtful and will standout among all the others! We have a great article with tips and tricks on everything you need to know about messaging here

Should I get a present for someone in talking to?

This is a very common question we get around the holidays. We think it really comes down to how long you've been chatting with one another for and what your gut is telling you. Intuition is one of your strongest super powers in dating! Within those chats has gift giving come up at all? Gifting is a lovely gesture, you just want to ensure that the other person is on the same page. If you're ever unsure about whether to gift or not, we always recommend having an open conversation about it with your date. You can simply ask something like "Are you into gift giving/receiving or is that not your thing?" and go from there!

How do I find man that is interested in building a relationship vs. only hooking up.
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 13, 2021 4:13 pm
The age-old question. This one all comes down to communication in our opinion! If you're looking for something serious, make those expectations known right off the bat when you start chatting with someone (you can also set your intent on your Plenty of Fish profile and check others' out in return). It doesn't have to be your opening line, but if you think there might be something there, just be honest and say you're looking for a relationship and only want to spend your time with people that are on the same page! Of course, there's no real way to prepare for those odd not-so-fun times when someone might not tell you the truth, but just trust your gut and we know you got this!

How soon is too soon to bring someone home for the holidays?
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 9, 2021 2:52 pm
We love this question and have noticed it's definitely a hot topic this year! It really is all about your own gut check - does it feel like the right time to bring your partner home for the holidays? Have you discussed this with your new partner? Maybe if you just met the day before you're boarding a plane home, it would be best to roll solo to your family holiday. If you feel you're heading in a great direction with your new found partner, why not introduce them to your family? Just give your parents a heads up so they know you've got a plus one at the dinner table!

Hello, what does a “ they’re looking for a different type of person mean” when trying to message someone? I can’t see any filter buttons that allow us to filter messages?
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 9, 2021 12:36 pm
Let us help you out! If you're on desktop, you can go to My Profile, and if you scroll down and look over at the right hand column you'll see a heading called Mail Settings. This is where you can filter out who you'd like to have message you! If you're on the app, you can also find this under Preferences when you tap on My Profile. Hope this helps and happy messaging!

Should I bring a new relationship to family Christmas?
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 8, 2021 5:56 pm
Let us flip that around and ask you - Do you want to bring a new relationship to your family's Christmas? Are you comfortable with where you're at in your relationship to introduce this new beau to your parents/extended family? It's always great to openly discuss the holidays with a new relationship to see where their head is at also. Maybe they'd rather sit out on the holidays and plan a smaller dinner in the new year to meet the family or perhaps they're entirely happy to meet the family over a turkey feast! It really is a personal decision but one you should certainly talk to your partner about.
  • ANONYMOUS SINGLE asked:
    on December 8, 2021 4:16 pm
When's a good time to introduce your date/someone you're seeing to your parents if you met around the holidays?
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 8, 2021 5:26 pm
Oooooo meeting the parents, how exciting. This comes down to how comfortable you and your partner are in your relationship and whether you think it's the right time. There is no real timeline or pressure you should put on yourselves to "meet the parents". If it feels like the natural step to take, then we say go for it!

I feel like I don't have a single group of friends anymore to talk dating with. Do you have any tips on how to find that type of community in your late 20's? It feels impossible sometimes to make single friends as an adult!
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 8, 2021 5:22 pm
Making friends sometimes can be tougher than finding a date for a holiday party so we totally hear you. We suggest leaning into your hobbies and what really excites you and then finding different outlets where you can meet like-minded people. Our members are finding new friendships and community through our livestreaming feature on Plenty of Fish so we would definitely recommend checking that out!

What's a good gift idea for someone you've been dating for a month, but the relationship is progressing quickly and has gotten relatively serious?
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 8, 2021 5:15 pm
Okay, gifting can be a tricky sometimes but let us ease the stresses for ya! A question you may want to ask yourself first is - Have we agreed to getting one another gifts? Make sure you're on the same page with your new partner before going out and buying something for them. Personally, for a newer relationship, we love the idea of a fun "experience gift" like a date night out to see a holiday show or live concert. This way you both get to experience some quality time together even during the busy holiday rush.

I am totally cool with being single right now and am actually having a great time meeting people, but the holidays are coming up and I'm stressed out about the potential questions from family about why I'm not with someone. How should I approach these convos?
    • Plenty of Fish E.L.F.S replied:
      on December 8, 2021 5:08 pm
You have nothing to worry about! If you're having a great time being single, enjoy it and let any of your nosey family members know that you're super happy with your singles status. Knowing that you're happy should be all your family needs to know!
