Last month we received an emailed from Vinnie with something extra special in it – a music video and song he had recorded for his partner Dawn whom he met on Plenty of Fish. It was evident we needed to hear all the details about how this long distance couple came to be!
Vinnie, what was it that stood out to you about Dawn’s profile?
I knew that we would be compatible from what I read in the “About Me” section of her profile. The moment I read that she “believes in putting each other first, after God,” I knew that we were totally on the same page. And there was this one particular picture that I saw on her profile – she was giving a backwards peace sign with her tongue sticking out (laughs) that helped me to see that she was most likely a fun-loving, playful, easy going kind of gal.
Dawn, I know you messaged Vinnie first, so what caught your eye initially?
When I read his profile, I noticed it had substance. I was especially drawn to the last three sentences in his profile, where he said, “I know that one day, I will be an amazing companion and best friend for someone. It just takes two people with the right chemistry. I believe in God and in the provision that he made for us all.” In addition, I was attracted to his brilliant smile in his profile picture playing his red Tom Anderson guitar. I loved seeing that he was not only a Christian, but musically talented as well. Something kept telling me to not rule this one out like I had done in the past, and to “give it a chance”. I am so happy that I did.
What made you two click?
We were compatible from the very start, there was no lag in our five hour phone conversations. We were always curious to know more about each other. We both have a sense of humor and we were straight forward with our conversations with one another. The physical attraction was there as well.
What did you do for the first date?
Our first date didn’t happen until day #114. Dawn lives in the Cincinnati (soon to be where I will be living before the end of 2020) and I live in Michigan. We live 5 hours and 42 minutes apart from one another. Speaking of doing something completely out of character, Dawn was the one who made the first drive to see me. I (Vinnie) had been working for months on shooting a music video for a song that I wrote and recorded called “Middle of Illinois.” Even though Dawn and I talked non-stop, I made it clear to her that I was in the middle of shooting a music video for my new song and that I would not be able to come see her until I had completed my music video. Dawn messaged me again because her work slowed down which is rare for her and asked me to meet up and take a break from the music video. Something clicked in me and I agreed we should meet.
We met at Red Lobster and an interesting thing about that night is, I left my house at a random time, not really knowing when Dawn would actually get to the restaurant. Anyway, we were talking on our Bluetooth headsets as we were driving, and I asked her where she was and what time was her GPS showing that she would arrive at Red Lobster and then out of the blue, I said, wait a minute are you on Wilson Avenue at the Rivertown Parkway traffic light? She said yes. I said… so am I. We flashed our lights at the same time excited to meet one another.
Once we got inside the Red Lobster, I christened our first meal together by blowing my straw wrapper in her face, in which she reciprocated. When we were just about finished with our meal, we sat in the car listening to a couple of songs that I had recorded. It was perfect.
What topics of conversation were important for you to bring up earlier on in your relationship?
The number one topic for us was God. If either one of us did not believe there would be no point in continuing on with a relationship. And if either one of us smoked, then there would be no reason to move forward with one another. And then, (Vinnie laughs) I just HAD to know if Dawn liked rock music.
Vinnie, when did you come up with the idea to write this awesome song about you and Dawn meeting on Plenty of Fish?
Well, initially the first spark of an idea came to me in early spring of 2020. I spent some time singing and playing guitar chords into my pocket recorder, just capturing and compiling a bunch of snippets and ideas, trying to figure out how to sew them all together into one cohesive piece. Dawn came up to visit me in June, we shot the rest of the video footage here at my home in Michigan. It was important to me to capture a shot of the Plenty of Fish logo in the music video because your platform brought us together.
Dawn, what was your reaction to the song when you first heard it?
I just couldn’t believe it. He wrote it just for me. I felt so loved. I wanted (and still do) to share it with the world. It’s one thing to find the prince you have waited for all your life, but to have a song written for you, on top of that, was just so exciting.
What is your best piece of advice for those using Plenty of Fish to find their special person?
Go with what your heart is telling you. Do not second guess or doubt what you are feeling. If Dawn didn’t step out in faith and go with her initial reaction to message me, we would never have known the happiness that we know now.
Just be yourself and don’t pretend to be someone you are not. Also, be sure to write your profile with substance. That gives a potential match a chance to get to know you. If someone really wants to get to know you, they will definitely take the time to read your profile. Put up several pictures to show your personality. And if you are willing to relocate, broaden your search range and mention that you are not bound by distance. Plenty of Fish offers advanced search options and using them to view all potential profiles will help you to narrow down the right one for you.
