Group dates are underrated. There, I said it. Sure, there are benefits to meeting up one-on-one, but there are so many great things about a group hang that don’t get enough credit. It can be such a good, low-pressure opportunity to see how your date interacts with others. Plus, it’s a chance to bring a friend or friends (bonus points if you met them on POF) with you for support—the modern dating buddy system. If you’re not sold yet, let me convince you.
To Group Date or Not to Group Date?
Now, I’m not trying to put one-on-one dating down. I’ve been on plenty of great one-on-one first dates. But, I think it’s the group date’s time to shine. Here are a few reasons why they’re so great.
Less Pressure, More Fun
Maybe you’re like me and don’t enjoy a lot of attention directed at you. On a group date, it alleviates that pressure so you can be more comfortable and open to having fun.
Showcases You in a Group Setting
Part of the dating progression is eventually meeting each other’s friends. So, wouldn’t it be nice to show how charming you are in a group setting from the get-go? It also gives you the opportunity to see how they are with others around.
Keeps the Conversation Going
Avoid the potential awkward silences. With at least four people there, the chatter is more likely to keep flowing.
Great Environment to Connect
Whether your group date is a first date or not, it provides a nice space to learn something new about someone and connect on a deeper level without everything feeling so forced and formal.
You Get a Built-in Support System
Bring a friend or two and have them bring dates! It’ll be like having the group chat there in person, so the debrief afterward will be even better.
Need Some Ideas?
If you’re still with me and are now looking to schedule that group date, here are some ideas to get you started.

Just Try Something New, Okay?
If you’re constantly dreading going on first dates, maybe making it a group date is more your vibe! My advice: give it a try and take some stress out of dating. Who knows what great things could come from it. As they say (whoever they are), good things come from stepping outside your comfort zone.
