Spruce, the bachelor Humboldt penguin, whose favorite activities are swimming and diving, is looking for a life mate who shares the joy of long walks on the beach and a surf and turf dinner for two!
With the help of Weymouth Sea Life Aquarium and Plenty of Fish, Spruce has decided to put himself out there, the best way he knows how – by creating his very own online dating profile. With the user name SprucePenguin and tagline ‘Single Penguin Looking for Chicks’, this family man is hoping to reel in the perfect catch.
Spruce’s carer and Weymouth Sea Life park penguin specialist, Sarah Everett, explains, “Our team hand reared Spruce from a chick and we successfully reintroduced him into our penguin colony. All the adult penguins are now entering their breeding season and are busy making nests. It would be nice for Spruce to have another single penguin to spend his time with, rather than his keepers.”
Plenty of Fish and Weymouth Sea Life understand many aquariums around the world may not want to part with their precious penguins, but they would love to see Spruce settle down with right chick and their hope is there is a lone bachelorette out there waiting for her very own Prince Charming.
