Plenty of Fish: Brett, take us through the proposal. When did you know you wanted to propose and how did you pull this off?
Brett: When we first met, I told Tiffany I did not see myself ever getting married. But early on in our relationship, I fell madly in love with her – I knew she was “The One.” With Tiffany being a Probation Officer, I came up with the concept to propose to her in the courtroom in a jumpsuit and shackles right in front of the judge. I knew it would catch her off guard and be a hilarious, yet beautifully unforgettable proposal. Little did I know we would be able to capture it and share it with the rest of the world. I am truly glad we did though, and I am happy the whole world now knows how much I love her.
POF: Tiffany, what was going through your mind when you saw Brett walk into the courtroom?
Tiffany: It is hard to actually put it into words how I felt at that very moment. When the inmate came through the door and I saw it was Brett, my heart sank. I was filled with fear, confusion and dismay. I thought, why is he in shackles? Why is he an inmate? I was actually terrified. My first thought was “OH NO! My work is going to find out this idiot belongs to me and I’m going to lose my job.” My second thought was “What could have my sweet man done?” lol.
POF: When did you two initially meet on Plenty of Fish? What was it about each other that sparked your interest. We know Tiffany didn’t have a photo on her profile so what stood out to you?
T&B: We started messaging back and forth in August of 2016.
B: That’s right, Tiffany didn’t have a photo. She mentioned how she wasn’t about playing games and was ready to find her soulmate. I was at the point in my life where I was ready too. Plus, I could tell from her profile, she had a sense of humour. Her profile headline was “You look like I need a drink” – I knew I had to message her. I baited the hook and cast my line. I knew after we spoke she was it.
T: I remember Brett’s profile being quite funny and his picture was hilarious. His profile title was “Mr. Make You Laugh.” I just had no idea how much truth was behind that. Although I did pass on his initial photo because he had the “duck lips” and I didn’t like that, we messaged back and forth for three weeks and our first conversation over the phone lasted 9 hours, it was like we were in high school again!
POF: What was your first date like together?
T: Our first actual date was perfect! Brett surprised me and literally kept the whole date a secret until we got there – we went for Hibachi. We had such a great time that we ended up spending the entire weekend together. We watched football, as we are both huge Alabama Crimson Tide fans, ate hot wings and had a few beers, and then went to the drive-in and the fair. Everything we did that weekend, he remembered me saying something about it in our previous conversations. I could not believe Brett remembered how much I loved the drive-in (I hadn’t been since I was a little girl). It was an incredible weekend getting to know one another.
POF: What is your best advice to Plenty of Fish members looking to meet someone?
T&B: READ THEIR BIO! Sometimes it is hard to initiate a conversation, but the bio gives you plenty to spark off of. See what you have in common. Don’t take yourself too seriously and use your sense of humor because that always helps break the ice. Get to know someone based on their profile, not just their profile picture and take it slow.
Probably the most important thing is to be genuine. It is nearly impossible to keep up a false persona if you intend on meeting and pursuing a relationship with someone you meet online.
