What is 2-Factor Authentication on Plenty of Fish?

To help keep your Plenty of Fish account secure and ensure only real people are logging into the platform, we are now using 2-factor authentication when creating a new account OR when logging into an account from a new device.

What is 2-Factor Authentication?

2FA is an extra layer of security used to make sure that people trying to gain access to an online account, like a Plenty of Fish account, are who they say they are. Instead of immediately gaining access to your Plenty of Fish account via your username and password, you will be required to provide another piece of information. This additional piece of information, is your mobile phone number.

Once you provide your mobile number, we will send you an SMS text message with a 6 digit code that you will enter on Plenty of Fish and used to be verified!

2FA only applies to new devices, unless you’re clearing your cookies, so you should only have to be verified once on each device you choose to login into Plenty of Fish with.

What happens to your  phone number after you’ve provided it to Plenty of Fish?

We will only use this phone number for the 2-factor authentication. You will not receive any additional text messages or phone calls from Plenty of Fish.

What happens if you’re being required to verify your account each time you log into Plenty of Fish?

If you’re being required to verify your account each time you log in, it may be due to accessing Plenty of Fish while using incognito mode on your browser, or regularly clearing your cookies.

Verifying your account while using incognito mode will verify your account for only that one session and you will need to re-verify after clearing your cookies.

If you’re not sure how to check if cookies are enabled, you can click here to instructions on the most common browsers.

If you have checked your cookie settings and are NOT clearing your cookies or using incognito mode, but still cannot permanently spare your device, please try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc) and let us know if that resolves the issue for you. You’ll need to verify once on each browser on the device, but you should only need to verify once.

What  do you do if you’re being asked to verify, but don’t see a place to enter your mobile phone number?  OR you’ve entered your mobile phone number and are not receiving a code or are receiving an error message?

You will want to reach out to our customer care and let them know what browser you’re using by going to https://www.whatismybrowser.com, or, if you’re being asked to verify on the mobile app, tell our customer care team whether you’re using an Android or iOS app.

If you don’t see where to enter your mobile phone number or you’re receiving an error message, please let us know what you do see by attaching a screenshot.

Your privacy is extremely important to us at Plenty of Fish and we implemented the 2-factor authentication to make our community a safe and secure space for our members to connect. If you have any more questions about 2FA, please feel free to comment below!

Hi Kyle, you can’t bypass verification, it is a security measure we have in place. If you’re having problems verifying your account, please reach out to our customer care team directly at [email protected]. Thanks!
