Plenty of Fish Study Reveals Why Face Filters Aren’t Getting You Any Dates

From bunny ears to flower crowns, face filters have changed the selfie game since becoming popular back in 2016. Sure, these filters are fun, and they can even help you out when you’re not feeling like your freshest self – but do they belong on your dating profile?

The short answer: NO

The long answer: Plenty of Fish surveyed 2,000 singles in the United States and the study reveals what they had to say about why your dating profile should be a filter-free zone.

We Want To See the Real You!

When looking for a partner online, it’s important that users feel like they’re seeing their matches as the real them in their photos, and not the glossed over, puppy-faced version a filter would supply.

70% of singles consider the use of face filter to heavily alter someone’s appearance to be deceptive.

25% of singles said their first thought when seeing a potential match with a face filter on their profile is that they’re pretending to be someone they’re not

If you want your matches to like you for who you truly are, the best way to do this is to show them!

  1. High Self Esteem is Attractive

There’s nothing more attractive than self-confidence, and a photo can speak a thousand words. Even if you are feeling insecure about how you look, a good quality portrait of yourself without any filters in the way, will always be the best way to show off your beautiful self, and the right people will take notice.

23% of singles said their first thought when seeing a potential match with a face filter on their profile is that they’re insecure

2. Maturity is Important

If you’re serious about finding someone, you want the people viewing your profile to see and feel that right from the get-go.

10% of singles said their first thought when seeing a potential match with a face filter on their profile is that they’re not serious about finding someone, and 9% said they’re immature

Even though the above may not be the case, your filtered photos could be giving the wrong impression, especially if there’s an emphasis in your profile description on finding a serious partner.

3. The Worst of the Worst

What are the worst face filters to use, you ask?

  • 22% said dog ears and tongue
  • 20% said the bunny filter
  • 18% said the fake glasses
  • 17% said the flower crown
  • 15% said the deer

THE BOTTOM LINE…

The majority of singles (52%) agree face filters should be banned from dating apps.

The people have spoken! And Plenty of Fish has taken action by implementing a face filter ban across the platform. As of today, images on Plenty of Fish that contain face filters will be moderated and removed. So it’s time to head over to your profile and make sure it’s officially filter-free.
