The 7 “Green Flags” That Someone Is an Absolute Catch

We’re all too familiar with the list of red flags to watch out for when dating someone new. We’re talking never meeting their friends, 2 am texts, and ex baggage… but what we often overlook are the positive signs that the person you’re dating is an absolute catch! I’m calling these green flags, and here are seven big ones that mean you’ve caught a good one.

They respond to your messages in a timely manner

A simple, but telling green flag. I get it, not everyone is a superb texter but if you’re really into someone you will find a way to chat with them. Remember, phones were invented to call someone, so you can still do that too.

They suggest plans before you even have to ask

What? He actually chose a TIME and A DAY to go to dinner? Refreshing!

How many times have you been texting back and forth with someone for a couple of days and the conversation goes something like this:

Them: “So you got plans tonight?”

You: “I’m going to binge Bridgerton on Netflix, why?”

Them: “Cool, yeah I’ll probably just chill”

No response needed – End of Conversation.

How the conversation should go if they’re into you:

Them: “I was wondering if you want to grab a bite on Saturday at 7 pm?”

You: “I’d love that!”

Them: “Okay, perfect, did you want to pick the spot or should I?”

You: “I can, just let me know your favorite food and I’ll pick a winner!”

Them: “Awesome, looking forward to it!”

See the difference? Version 2 = major green flag.

They’re attentive and not trying to split their attention

The absolute worst feeling is when it’s obvious someone is not listening to you. You call them to catch up about your day and their responses are delayed a couple of seconds as if they’re focused on someone or something else. Something equally horrible? You walk through the door ready to spill some office tea but they’re texting the whole time you’re venting. Not cool, not cool.

The green flag I look out for is someone who will give you their undivided attention when you need them to (yes, that means sans phone in hand) and says, “let me just finish up what I’m doing, so I can give you my full attention” or something similar. Now that’s a keeper.

They make you feel comfortable enough to share your quirks and opinions

There is nothing better than being able to share who you really are with someone you’re dating without fear of being judged. Dating someone new can be a little nerve-racking regardless and for the first couple weeks, you’re usually both on your best behavior. That moment when you loosen up and really get to know each other is by far my favorite part of any relationship, and being able to do so without feeling any awkwardness or hesitation from their end is a sign they’re definitely into you.

They encourage you to pursue things you really want to do

Time and time again I’ll hear stories where an SO is jealous of their partner’s work promotion and nothing irks me more! A great catch should also be your number one supporter and cheerleader. Maybe you need a little boost once in a while to pursue a hobby or take a class you’ve always wanted to! A solid partner will provide the encouragement you need instead of laughing and knocking the idea down.

They treat not only family and friends with kindness but strangers too

A sign of a genuinely good person is one that goes above and beyond not only to those close to you but strangers too! Whether they’re just friendly and strike up a conversation with someone at a store or generously tip a waiter, these are really great flags that they actually care about other people’s well-being.

They give you your space

You may need some alone time once in a while and your partner should understand without getting offended or taking it personally. Let’s be honest, living in quarantine with a partner is A LOT. You see each other every waking moment if you work from home, so taking time to do your own thing is very important and a great partner will accept that!

Next time you’re chatting up that match, meeting someone new for the first time, or currently in a budding relationship, be sure to watch out not only for red flags but the green ones too!
