St. Patty’s Day – The only time green beer is passable as a beverage. This day of celebration is this Sunday and Vancouver is ready to party! To help you decide where you will be heading to feast, drink and be merry, I’ve compiled a list of the best bars in Vancouver to meet fellow singles looking for their lucky charm.
The Pint: This bar doesn’t just celebrate one day of St Patty’s, no no, they celebrate the whole weekend starting on Saturday morning and going till late on Sunday. With live music and $6 Guinness Pints, you’ll be doing an Irish jig before you know it! On normal days, this bar is buzzing with the after-work crowd of young professionals. With lots of standing room and high top tables, The Pint provides the perfect atmosphere to chat with people you’ve never met before. Vancouverites tend to be a little more friendly when we’re celebrating something, so use this event as a conversation starter! Grab your shamrocks and green socks and check out this bar.
The Irish Heather: For the more sophisticated St. Patty’s Day crowd! This GastroPub is in the very heart of historic Gastown – a true Irish House that is owned by Irish people who actually work there! This little joint will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day on the 17th with the most traditional of feasts. They will be offering a proper family style dining experience from 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm for $45 where guests can enjoy a meal of corned beef, mashed potatoes, and cabbage followed by a dessert of apple crumble and a pint of Guinness. I’m full just thinking about this meal!
The Blarney Stone: A Vancouver classic and the city’s longest running Irish bar, established in 1972. The Blarney Stone, named after a block of limestone built into the Blarney Castle in Ireland, is going above and beyond for St. Pats and will be celebrating events starting March 13th – 17th. They hosted a trivia night just last night and events for this week include Shamrock festival, Irish appreciation night, Trip for Two to Ireland giveaway (Sign me up!!), and a St Patty’s Festival day to round out the week! This will no doubt be a huge party and if you love classic Irish music, expect to stomp your feet to bands, The Sheets on Friday and The Shenanigans on Saturday. Perhaps you’ll meet your match on the dance floor! And if you’re wondering about the crowd, this bar draws all ages.
Dublin Calling: If you’re looking to do the Shamrock Shakedown (sounds fun!), Dublin Calling is your spot! Doors open at 11am on Sunday and you seriously can’t miss this place in the Granville District, with its front facade covered in graphics of people having fun and playing games. What I like about this bar that’s a little different from the rest, is they have a bunch of games you can play which is really interactive. Vancouver can be a hard place to meet other singles, but when there is an activity in the mix, it can be easier to approach someone and ask them to play, or make comments on how good they are at darts!
Johnny Fox’s Irish Snug: Authentic comes to mind when I think of Johnny Fox’s Irish pub. Quaint, friendly staff, and some of the best Irish musicians, this snug on The Granville District is a little taste of Ireland. With draft beers and ciders imported straight from Ireland, you can find yourself chatting away with your neighbors in this more intimate style nook of a bar. Open at 11:30am, you can fill up on their sizable breakfasts of sausages and eggs before tapping the kegs!
So what’s it going to be this St. Patty’s Day for you? A couple brews, a jig, or a ‘stick to your rib’ style feast – why not try all of the above and make it a weekend pub crawl?
