Fall is in full swing! While most of us rejoice over the chance to break out our cozy sweaters and drink holiday lattes, with cold weather also comes cuffing season – and the pressure for singles to find someone to keep them warm this season is real.

Enter Plenty of Fish – we’re here to help you find that special someone that will last beyond the cold weather.

That being said, we empathize with that feeling of dread when first creating an online dating profile. No matter how straightforward the sign-up process may be, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed when trying to figure out how to put the best version of yourself out there for other singles to see.

A recent study conducted by the Plenty of Fish team highlighted pressures singles feel in the dating world, and when it comes to online profiles – there were some major stressors!

When online dating, singles feel the most pressure to:
1. Write great messages
2. Have a great profile bio
3. Stand out from the rest of the crowd

Luckily – we’re here to help! We want your dating experience to be the best it can be, so here are some tips and tricks to make your profile as wonderful as you are.

JUST BE YOU

Plenty of Fish recently banned face filters so your matches can see the real you. Just like you might be tempted to filter a photo of yourself, you may also be tempted to *embellish* some things about your personality or lifestyle.

While you might feel pressure to have a certain career, hobby, or income, we promise that sticking to what’s true and real will allow you to stand out a whole lot more.

Have a wicked sense of humour? Amazing – put that out there! Have been told you’re not one for jokes, but make a mean homemade bolognese? Fantastic – put that out there too! Your profile should be filled with the things that make you, you – and when you put yourself out there in an authentic way, you’ll be sure to attract the same in return.

FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE

This one’s important! In the dating world, it’s easy to point out what you don’t want, especially when it comes to online dating. Profiles are often filled with “don’t message me if’s” or “won’t respond if you’s” and while it might be keeping away some bad fish, it’s likely keeping away some good fish too! To a potential match, seeing a profile filled with negatives can be very intimidating, and may prevent that person from reaching out to you.

If you focus on the things that you do want instead, it creates a much more welcoming space and allows matches to feel more comfortable messaging you.

DON’T HIDE YOUR QUIRKS

If you watched our Dine & Dish video, you got a peek at four vastly different Plenty of Fish user’s profiles and would have noticed that they each had their own individual quirks that make them who they are.

Though you might view a unique hobby or personality trait as ‘weird,’ it might be the endearing quality that makes a potential match fall head over heels for you! Not to mention it will definitely make your profile as one-of-a-kind as you are.

ASK FOR HELP

If you’re truly stuck on what to write – don’t be afraid to ask your family and friends for help. Those closest to us often know us better than we know ourselves and can offer helpful descriptions, traits, or values that you may never have thought of including.

We often don’t recognize some of our greatest qualities, which is truly a shame! The people who love you most will have no problem telling you all the reasons why you’re such a fantastic catch.
