As one quote attributed to the Navy SEALS put it, “Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training.”
When a certain situation arises, you’re going to react the way you’ve been conditioned. When you’re actively dating, you run into loads of different situations and personalities.
I’m going to share with you a couple easy steps and tools you can utilize to help you initiate conversations, feel like a more confident dater and improve upon your social skills!
Good mornings: Say “hi” to people you pass by first thing on your way to work, the gym or a coffee shop.
Small Talk: Chat up anyone you come into contact with on your day to day routine, including your favorite barista. It’s as easy as making an observation, followed up with a comment for example “Beautiful day today isn’t it?”. The conversation will probably be short, but it’s just a warm up.
Plenty of Fish: Dating online is a great way to meet people and put yourself out there. If you’ve been out of the dating scene for quite some time, dating apps are a great way to dip your toes back into the dating pool. Schedule dates and practice your best date etiquette.
Public speaking: Public speaking is a big fear for many. I highly suggest you tackle your fears and take a public speaking course to boost your confidence when you’re in a group or across the table with a date.
Stand up comedy: Take a stand up comedy or improv class to shake up your funny bone. Telling jokes in front of your class is a good way to loosen up and be silly.
Networking events: Go to a business networking event and set a goal for yourself to chat with as many people as possible while maintaining a quality conversation. It’s a great opportunity to observe the room and create connections with people. You never know, one of these acquaintances could lead to a relationship!
Approach someone you’re attracted to: Go introduce yourself to an attractive stranger. Learning how to approach women will really spike the nerves, but if you can do it you’ll feel very proud and more confident than ever.
