ICYMI – Our livestreaming feature, Live!, has been the talk of the town these days as streaming becomes a new favorite hobby and career choice for people around the world! Digital connection became such a necessity as we all navigated a global pandemic. Now, what once might have seemed out of a lot of our comfort zones has actually changed people’s lives in a number of ways. Livestreaming is in y’all!
Meet Mimi Kitty, the HR Lady!
Mimi is a full-time HR professional and part-time livestreamer on Plenty of Fish Live! She’s out here proving that those in the corporate world belong in the Live! community as well, and actually have a ton of awesome knowledge to share. We had the pleasure of getting to know Mimi a little better through one of her streams, and now we’re here to help you get to know her too through a little Q&A.
How did you get started with livestreaming? What made you want to start?
I signed up for POF after I ended a relationship and noticed the Live! feature. I saw how much fun people were having in the streams, so I started one of my own! I didn’t show my face at first, but I quickly built enough confidence that I decided to be my full self after a few streams. I realized soon after, you don’t need much to start streaming. Just a device with a camera and you are good to go! So simple!
What interested you about POF Live?
What got me interested was seeing the relationships people were creating on Live! within their streams.
What was it like when you first started streaming? Were you nervous?
You do get nervous when you stream for the first time. You have to come up with stuff to say and continue to carry the conversation. I waited for people to join my stream and come talk to me, but then you get into the rhythm of things and start to talk about topics you love!
Do you stream full-time or in addition to another job?
I don’t stream full-time. I typically just stream on Tuesday evenings. I have a full-time job in Human Resources. I’m able to stream during my off time from work and it’s super convenient to do so.
What types of topics do you chat about in your streams?
We talk about a lot of topics! We talk about world events, money (retirement, spending habits), sports, nutrition, relationship issues, a lot of Human Resources topics like compensation, benefits and dealing with difficult bosses, etc. The topics vary depending on people’s moods and input.
How did you grow your community into what it is now? Was there a turning point?
The community I’ve grown are all people I would hang out with outside the app. We have a lot in common and like to chat about the same things. My streams have changed a little over time due to the content. The turning point was really when I started to stream more about HR and that attracted a different crowd and the support has grown and become more diverse from there.
What do you enjoy the most about streaming on POF?
The interactions I get to have with people and making a difference in their day. I give HR advice to my viewers, and I hope the answers I give them have made a difference in the decisions they make in their own professional lives.
How would you describe the vibe of your streams?
The vibes in my streams are pretty calm. Very quiet as I want to focus on the conversations and don’t want distractions on my streams. No loud music or crazy lights. Just good conversations with good people are most important in my streams.
What can viewers expect from your streams?
To have an engaging conversation and to be able to participate in the conversations without judgment. I look for anyone watching my streams to be open-minded and respectful to other people. They’ll also hopefully be able to learn something new about HR.
Have you made any significant connections through Live? (good friendships, romantic connections etc.)
Yes! I’ve developed very good friendships outside of the app. I’ve grown a friendship with someone who I hang out with often. We go for hikes, have dinners, shop, etc. We have a lot in common personally and professionally! I’ve also developed friendships with some people who live in California, so I’ll be meeting up with them when I head down there to visit. My best friend lives in California, so I go down there often.
I’ve also met my boyfriend online. He used to come into my streams a lot and we would chat in there. One day, we decided to take our conversations from the app offline and that allowed the relationship to blossom. Our relationship has definitely gone through its own issues, but we’ve overcome those obstacles and have been together for about 6 months now!
So would you say streaming has changed your life at all?
Streaming has changed my life for the better. I’ve learned how to be comfortable in front of a camera, learned how to communicate better, built some really great relationships online, and found a serious relationship with someone who lives in Dubai. You get really incredible insight from people who live in a different part of the world, so you learn about people and other cultures all at the same time. The learning aspect really is endless.
For those who haven’t come across your streams yet, how can they find you on Live!?
People can find me by searching my username, Mimikitty88, or HR lady or on the main trending page.
When do you stream typically? (What days/times)
Right now, I’m streaming Tuesdays, 6 pm – 8 pm MST. I sometimes stream an additional day when I can.
What are your plans for the future in streaming?
I’m not too sure, but I plan to keep the streams engaging. My streams will change over time. I hope my community on Live! continues to grow and I hope to keep providing good content for people to engage with and enjoy.
If you could give new streamers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Be confident in who you are and don’t waiver from your values and ethics. Be yourself and people will come to your streams because of you. You don’t need any bells or whistles for your streams, just bring yourself!
Now, everyone go watch Mimi’s stream! She has so much knowledge to share and if you’re looking for a supportive and fun community to be a part of, she’s got you covered!
