Wait, Why Was My Plenty of Fish Account Deleted? Here’s Why…

“My account has been deleted, but I have no idea why…”

If you’re wondering this very question, the short answer? You’ve violated our Community Guidelines. Our guidelines are built on the foundation of these four pillars:

  1. Be Kind
  2. Be Respectful
  3. Be Safe
  4. Be Real

If your behaviour follows the above, keep doing what you’re doing.

Now for the long answer? Read on!

We understand how frustrating it can be to log on to your Plenty of Fish account only to find that it no longer exists, but we also have to keep our platform safe and secure for our members, as well as ensure it’s being used for its intended purpose: to form authentic connections.

If you’ve discovered your account has been deleted and you’re unsure why this is, these are the main reasons for deletion.

1. You Were Unkind – You’ve Used Hate Speech, Rude, Discriminatory, Violent, or Otherwise Harmful Language

Plenty of Fish has a zero-tolerance policy for any abuse whether it’s in your profile or a message reported by another member.

If you’re found to be harassing, or disrespectful to other users, or you have content on your profile that is racist, violent, rude, or abusive, you will be deleted and banned. Respect and kindness are very important to us, and anything less is simply unacceptable.

If someone hasn’t responded to your messages, or says they’re no longer interested in communication it is for a reason, and it’s important to let it be. It does not give you the right to keep spamming them with hurtful language. Rejection can be difficult to comprehend, but it happens to everyone. How you react to being rejected speaks volumes – it’s important to respectfully decline someone if disinterested and respectfully accept rejection when you’re faced with it.

2. You Were Disrespectful – You’ve Posted Inappropriate Image(s)

This should go without saying, but nudity is a no-no on Plenty of Fish. Along with any nudity, images containing sexually explicit imagery, violence, criminal activity or discrimination will result in account deletion.

Additionally, if you’ve posted a photo in lingerie, underwear, shirtless or in a bikini out of context (ie in your bathroom) your account will be moderated and, depending on the image, could be deleted as well.

Messages reported by members containing disrespectful language can also lead to an account deletion. For example if you’re reaching out to someone using unwelcome sexual propositions, you will be moderated.

If you need tips on the do’s and don’ts of profile pictures, look here.

3. You’re Being Unsafe – You’re Not Here for the Right Reasons

If you’re married, a minor, doing something illegal, or you’re promoting or soliciting any services, Plenty of Fish is not the place for you and your account will be deleted.

For example, if you’re only promoting your live streaming account, Instagram page, or new website, and we have reason to believe you’re only on Plenty of Fish to promote your businesses, you will be removed.

4. You’re Not Real

The final pillar of our standard conduct promise is to be real – something that’s so important that we’ve banned the use of face filters on our site and app. If your account has been deleted for violating this guideline, it can be for very literal reasons, or more figurative ones.

In the most literal sense – if you’re using Plenty of Fish to try and scam, spam, or impersonate someone else, your account will be deleted. This goes for creating multiple accounts as well, or trying to access or use an account that isn’t yours.

Photo No No’s

  • Group shots – it’s going to be hard for your date to pick out who you are in that group shot, make it easier for them by posting just a photo of you!
  • Pets – We LOVE seeing your pets, but you need to be in the shot too, make sure if you add your pooch or kitty, that you’re posing with them.
  • Filters – People want to see the REAL you, if you’re photos are heavily filtered (ie Snapchat filtered) they will be removed.
  • Memes, Quotes, Cartoons – As much as we love laughing at a good meme or stand behind a strong quote, they will be removed since you’re not in the photos. If there is a quote you absolutely love or stand behind, we encourage you to add it to your profile description.

In a more figurative sense, we want your profile to show the real, genuine, you (because you’re great!). If you’ve posted photos on your profile that are heavily edited/filtered, don’t show your face, or simply aren’t you at all, it will likely result in deletion.

We love it when members post pictures of their hobbies like building Lego, cycling, your dog, or latest art work etc, but we want to ensure that your face is also in the photo so we can verify it’s you. When you’re posting images showing off your skills, just be sure to include YOU in the photo too!

We want our members to enjoy a positive dating experience and to find like-minded individuals! If you follow our guidelines and remain respectful of others, your profile should remain safe and sound!

If you have any further questions about profile deletions, please ask away below and we will do our best to answer.

I just made my profile today and just after like 2 hours I wasn’t able to get in because it was deleted. It didn’t tell me why it was deleted though. I didn’t had the chance to talk to anyone so it can’t be that I Harassed anyone nor did I have anything aggressive whatsoever in my profile. I didn’t have any pics that showed nudity nor anything else inappropriate. And I am pretty sure I am myself & therefore the person on the pictures so there is no obvious reason I got deleted. Is there any way to find out what happend and how to maybe get my account back?

I signed into the app on two different cell phones because I OWN two different phones with different numbers (instead of a home phone).

This cause my account to be flagged and deleted. Apparently that’s happened to a lot of people.

Are you ever going to resolve this issue?

I don’t understand why years ago my profile was deleted because I accidentally posted a photo wearing a bandana over my mouth, it was a simple mistake…but even years later I try to sign back on and you keep deleting me! So basically all your app needs to say is “if you make a mistake, we don’t care and you are banned for life!”

I havent gotten to use Pof because i was banned and then deleted I was only trying to complete my profile. I wasn’t told why nor have I did anything. I also don’t use filters. If its a filter it’s not a beauty one. It’s only showing how fun I am the real me. Anyways it goes to show how fake the app is. Should be rated 1 star. I’m really glad I didn’t spend anything because I’d sue you all for waste of time and money… lowkey makes me feel like this is a race thing because I’ve never heard of my white friends accounts going through this kinda thing but it’s just me. Before I even do anything. Anyways I had been screenshotting this stuff because you obv. Need proof. So I’m wondering what kind of unsatisfactory answer I will get from this. I’ll be posting whatever answer you give me on fb. Piss poor pitiful since I was well within your rules guidelines or whatever you want to call it. If all your going to say is sorry… save it for someone who needs it. Done wasting my time with trash app set to waste people’s time and money scamming them. Hope you all are flagged

Good evening, it appears my account has been temporarily banned for no reason. I suspect I have been reported for being trans so my account is automatically suspended. I read online that this is a regular problem that every trans profile experiences. I was enjoying the site and considering buying a 3 month pack but now not so sure if I lose access after 6 hours 🙁

Hi. I was taken aback and disappointed that I was banned and deleted from the site POF. I have no knowledge of being disrespectful or abusive as this is not in my nature. If I made any comments I would have been joking. I would be grateful if you could reconnect myself to the dating site as I found the site a good source of social interaction in meeting new people, I will be careful of my wording in the future. David Thornton.
