The Essential Date-Ready Handbag

Whether you’re jumping back into the dating scene for the first time or have been dating for a while, you want to make sure that you’re totally prepared for a night on the town.  Once you’ve perfected your date-night look, you’ll need an easy-to-carry handbag to go with it.

Find Your Style

An overstuffed tote or bulky work bag is just not practical for a date. After all, there’s nothing worse than having to sift through a bunch of accumulated junk just to find your lip gloss! Whether you’re barhopping, having a romantic dinner or heading out to do an activity, you need a small, out-of-the-way (or even hands-free) bag to hold your essentials. A clutch or crossbody bag will hold everything you need without becoming cumbersome.

Think High-Quality

When it comes to a reliable handbag, quality is key. You don’t want a clasp or strap to break in the middle of your date. While premium, designer-quality handbags can often be expensive, sometimes it’s worth splurging on a bag you are going to have for years. But if you’re looking for something more reasonable, try shopping for a pre-owned bag. You can shop secondhand and resale sites for designer brands at a fraction of the original cost—and only you will know the difference. Find something in a color that suits your personality and goes with everything in your wardrobe.

Stock It With the Essentials

Once you’ve decided on a bag that fits you, you can edit the contents down to the essentials you’ll need for a night out.

  • Cell phone (fully charged). A given!

  • Cardholder. If you’re like me, you tend to collect assorted loyalty cards and receipts and rarely clean out your wallet. To save space in your bag, ditch your clunky wallet in favor of a cardholder. It’s a slim, streamlined alternative and will only hold exactly what you need: a credit card, your ID and maybe a little cash.

  • Lip color. The perfect lip color, whether you prefer lipstick or lip gloss, can go a long way to helping you shine on a date. Make it a rule to never go anywhere without it!

  • Gum or mints. This one is self-explanatory! Always be prepared.

  • Rosewater. If you’ve got a little extra room in your clutch or crossbody bag, this is an essential. Whether you’re coming right from work or simply think you’ll need a little rejuvenation during your date, keep a small bottle of rose water on hand so you can spritz it on your face to freshen up.

Dating can be such an exciting time, so create a mental checklist before heading out to make sure you’ve got your date-night handbag packed to perfection. If you feel confident and prepared, your date will be able to tell—and there’s nothing more stylish than a confident woman.

We've all been there. You've received a message you could've done without or have been the main subject of someone else's opinion and criticism. Before you spiral down the tunnel of taking someone else's opinion as fact, ask yourself, "Would I go to this person for advice?" If the answer is HELL NO, then forget about it, their opinion doesn't matter anyways and you don't need to dedicate another moment to it. 💙 #justathought 202 15
"I just wanted to say thank you SO much! Plenty of Fish helped me to go from a single mom living in Southern California to happily engaged and living in Louisiana. We eventually got married and moved back to California where we currently live with our 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. Plenty of Fish helped me find the love of my life and took me on the best adventure with my new best friend. It has been the best 6 years of my life!" 💙 - Mercedes 246 74
