Lena Dunham’s recently released promo skits for March 8th’s SNL got us excited about what’s in store for us this Saturday night, and all jokes aside, Lena can serve up some surprising life lessons with a side of laughs. Here’s why your love/dating life needs a lot more Lena:
Our “flaws” aren’t the end of the world:
Self-conscious about your thighs? Hiding your hands because you’re a nail biter? Minding the little gap in your front teeth? Forget about all that – no one is perfect and no one has the right to define beauty. Easier said than done, but find confidence in all the great things you have going for you, even the small things.
Don’t settle for less:
It’s no secret that Lena is a strong woman with incredible talent. She knows exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Best example is her HBO show, “Girls”. She had a vision, wrote the script, acts as the main protagonist, directs AND produces the show. So, take Ms. Dunham as an example and don’t settle for someone who’s easy to acquire but doesn’t give you butterflies. Be ambitious, set goals and follow your heart, even if it means waiting a bit longer. You’ll find yourself in the meantime.
Stay true to yourself:
Lena has endured constant criticism for rebelling against being a conventional celebrity. People disapprove of body type, her tattoos, her fashion sense, and her outspoken nature… and that’s only for starters. Her refusal to subscribe to convention is why we love her. You can be successful without changing yourself. Get out there, be yourself, and be proud of it. That’s the only way you’ll find someone who truly loves you for who you are.
Think outside the box:
Why are Lena’s projects such great successes? It’s simple: she found a creative voice that differentiates her from all others. She takes risks and tries new things to see where they lead. So don’t be afraid to go down a path that hasn’t been explored yet. How about looking for someone completely opposite of what you are usually attracted to? Or trying online dating instead of hoping your friends have someone to set you up with? What do you have to lose?
Laugh at yourself:
Lena’s SNL promo further demonstrates that she’s not afraid of facing criticism and making fun of herself. – ranging from taking on too many roles on set to showing her bare breasts too often. The best way of dealing with haters? Laugh it off. Twist the situation around to your advantage. Did you have a bad date experience? Stay positive. It will make a great story at your Bachelorette party.
