It’s that time of year folks! The weathers’ getting colder and the vibes are getting spookier. Whether you’ve been planning a costume all year, or like to take it easy on Ol’ Hallows Eve, we have the perfect list of date ideas that will tickle anyone’s Halloween fancy.

  1. Have a backyard camp-out and listen to a scary podcast

There are an increasing number of true crime and horror podcasts popping up left and right, some of which are incredibly well produced and will definitely do the trick if you’re looking for a scare. Set up your tent in your backyard, or even on your balcony, and make it extra cozy with lots of pillows and blankets. Grab a wireless speaker or your laptop and snuggle up for an evening of spooktacular stories.

If you need some inspiration, check out some of these great podcasts that will send shivers down your spine.

  1. Visit a haunted corn maze

Shake up the age-old trip to the pumpkin patch and visit a haunted corn maze instead. Most cities will put on a yearly event that will scare you silly. Want to know what you’re getting into? Check out this one located in Abbotsford, BC that’s been voted the scariest corn maze in Canada!

  1. Go all out with a couples costume

For those of you who live for planning a top-notch costume, it can be even more fun to create one as a couple. Look up some ideas and spend a day perusing thrift shops looking for the perfect pieces to complete your look. Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party or attending one, make sure to make time to get ready together as a couple and don’t forget to snap some pics!

  1. Have a scary movie marathon

Who doesn’t love cuddling up on the couch for a movie night! Pick one movie each and agree to watch whatever your partner chooses. Or, if you need the light of day in order to make it through a scary film, make a day of it and pick two movies each! Don’t forget a Halloween themed snack.

Need some movie ideas? Some of my personal favourites are A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Conjuring, A Quiet Place, and The Blair Witch Project

Can’t handle the horror genre? Opt for a satire horror flick like Cabin in the Woods, Shaun of the Dead, or Scary Movie.

  1. Bake Halloween themed treats

If you love baking, or just love eating treats, this date is for you. Try one of these fun recipes and either marvel over your professional baking skills, or laugh at each other’s creative attempts.

  1. Tell scary stories by the campfire

Everyone knows ghost stories are best when read out loud, especially by the campfire. Print out the spookiest stories the internet has to offer, make a fire in your backyard, and have a double date night that will chill you to the bone!

  1. Host a murder mystery night

If you and your partner are up for some planning, hosting your own murder mystery night is a super fun way to spend your Halloween. You can purchase a murder mystery kit that sets you up with a unique story and casts your guests as characters. Everyone comes dressed up as their assigned persona and you’ll spend the evening trying to figure out ‘whodunit.’

  1. Visit an escape room

Want a real-life horror movie experience? Try out your nearest escape room! There will often be various themes ranging anywhere from haunted hospitals, to escaped killers, to sci-fi mysteries. Make sure you and your date can handle the pressure!
