Couples Date Night Enhanced with a “Smart” Home

Netflix and chill is so last year, especially when you’ve been dating for a while. Smart home technology can help you take date nights to a new level. Most people were exposed to the possibilities when, onFriends, Pete brings Monica home from a date and says, “Lights. Wait, no. Romantic lights.” The ability to control the mood of a date with just your voice was once far-fetched, but now using tech to inspire romance is something everyone can do. Here’s how:

1. Set the Mood with smart lighting

Imagine how impressed your significant other would be to come over for a candlelit dinner, but instead of candles, the lighting of the entire home adjusted automatically as the evening progressed. With smart lighting, you can dim the lights, change the colors, or even have the lights pulse in time with the music while you dance, all without touching the switch.

2. Add aromatherapy for romance

Scent is an oft-ignored part of romance. Once you know your partner’s favorite scent, or perhaps the most relaxing one, set up a Wi-Fi enabled diffuser to spread the fragrance with the sound of your voice. Utilizing all five senses can take a date from mediocre to unforgettable.

3. Auto-sound the tunes

Music is romantic, but fumbling with your smartphone apps to find just the right song can ruin the vibe of the date. Attach a motion sensor to your front door and program your smart speakers to begin playing a setlist as soon as you walk in (in tandem with the lights). If it starts with your “couple” song, even better.

4. Do movie night right

Let’s face it: There’s nothing better than curling up with that special someone and watching a great flick. What better way to do that than with a Blu-ray copy of Casablanca and a 4K television? Hook up LEDchange lights to a different hue and create an even more romantic mood. If you can’t find something to watch, a smart TV can make suggestions based on past viewings, and you can make it all happen with your voice.

5. Make a “romance” button

All of these devices by themselves can spice up date night, but they take time to set up. Link your smart lights, smart speakers and other connected devices together as part of a smart home hub (your internet service provider can help), and you can immediately turn your home from its day-to-day settings to romance mode with a single swipe on a mobile app.

If your SO has a bad day at work and you want to cheer them up, all you need to do is pull out your smart phone and instantly transform your home into a romantic escape.
